With the successful renewal of the ELLIS Unit Heidelberg, the Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) is now formally included as a contributing partner, further strengthening the Unit’s interdisciplinary profile.

The Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics (MPIK) is now part of the renewed ELLIS Unit Heidelberg, reinforcing the Unit’s strength in fundamental and data-intensive research.

Our ELLIS Unit has been successfully extended following the recent ELLIS-wide evaluation, joining 25 Units across Europe that continue to meet the network’s high standards of scientific excellence and collaboration.

Very happy to meet you in our new web-space - and show you our idea of an AI brand for the Rhine-Neckar triangle!
The ELLIS Unit Heidelberg hosts AI Life Delta, a community from and for AI Life Scientists in Heidelberg and Mannheim.

While part of our team joined EuRIPS, others represented us at NeuRIPS - and returned with impressive recognition!

Hosted at the IWR, Prof. Gábor Csányi - Director of the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P) - will speak on "Mace Force Field Models for the Periodic Table".
When: May 21st - 16:15-17:15 -
Where: Mathematikon • Conference Room, Room 5/104, 5th Floor • Im Neuenheimer Feld 205, 69120 Heidelberg

We are delighted to kick-off our new joint ELLIS Heidelberg AI in Life seminar series with a talk by Florian Ingelfinger (DKTK Freiburg) whose work bridges translational immunology and computational biology.
His talk will focus on generative models for antibody-based single-cell technologies:
When: May 13th - 11:00-12:00 -
Where: DKFZ Kommunikationszentrum • Im Neuenheimer Feld 280, 69120 Heidelberg

TrustworthyAI4Health: Toward Trustworthy AI Modeling for Computational Healthcare - an in-person workshop co-organised with ELSA and EMBL on March 9th 2026 at EMBL Heidelberg. This event brought together AI researchers, clinicians, ethicists, bioinformaticians and data governance experts to advance private, fair, robust, reliable and accountable AI systems in healthcare.

In our joint heidelberg.ai / NCT Data Science Seminar series, we are welcoming great guests - this time Tobias Fischer, Senior Lecturer and ARC DECRA Fellow at QUT (Queensland University of Technology). In this talk, he will dive into the world of brain-inspired autonomous navigation, exploring how biological brains localize themselves so efficiently - without GPS.

EurIPS, a community-driven conference that makes world-class AI research accessible to Europe by showcasing papers accepted at NeurIPS, the most prestigious AI conference globally, took place for the first time this December in Copenhagen!

On Dec. 2, 2025, ELLIS was organizing a community gathering in Copenhagen. This UnConference was open to all EurIPS participants at no additional cost. ELLIS is increasingly focused on activities for the wider European AI/ML community and the UnConference is part of these efforts.
